Hmm…Cardinal Rules in Life

7 Cardinal Rules in LifeOn my personal facebook page, I saw this post by NAMI and wanted to add it to my blog because it listed 7 Cardinal Rules in Life.

I think number 7 is the hardest for me to follow.

What do you think? What rule is your hardest to follow? Why?

Please comment.

NAMI wrote that list. Seems rather condescending to me. Talk about sucky attitudes. SMILE wtf – what kind of joke is that. It’s pretty damn close to the phrase I really hate with a passion: “Get over it.” I am not so sure there advice is that well thought out. Some may be headed in the right direction but I am sorry. You don’t tell someone who is feeling depressed to SMILE you don’t have the corner on all the problems or whatever they said. That is insensitive crap. If you are feeling awful, yes, it would be nice not to feel that way but smiling isn’t going to pull you out of a depression. You smile if that is what you are feeling. I may sound harsh but that just insults someone bipolar and adds to the stigma rather than trying to help rid the world of stigmatizing those of us who deal with the people that freak when they find out you see a therapist or you have bipolar. Bu the way, I prefer mentally creative to mental illness. Never liked those two words together. Refuse to call myself that. jk

I full hearted agree with you on the last cardinal sin…oh I mean rule. You said it beautifully. Thank you. I didn’t know how to put it into words and you say it best here.

I agree about the term “mental illness” or even mental disorder. It already has the stigma of being damaged already with it. Very negative already. Like we need that.
